Activities for the Rinus-pinifund
THANK YOU for your SUPPORT to the Rinus Pini Fund
Many of you have supported the Rinus Pini Fund financially since 2022, and we are deeply grateful to you for that. We are also thankful to all the sponsors who made the various initiatives possible.
In 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, Grandpa Yves cycled to Santiago de Compostela. In 2022, Floris, Moses, Bruno, Leo, Sole, and Ann walked the final 220 km with him. In 2023, Bruno and Floris joined him for part of the route by bike, and in 2024, Bruno once again rode a section with him. In 2025, he was again joined by Bruno and also by Bernadette Abts, a former colleague of Grandma. If you'd like to learn more about these journeys, you can read his blogs.
Hans Delye, Rinus’ godfather, ran the marathons of Eindhoven and Venice in 2022, 2023, and 2024 to raise funds for the Rinus Pini Fund, and he founded Running for Rinus. In 2025, he will run the Amsterdam marathon. Bruno and his girlfriend Anett ran the half marathon in Oxford. Around 200 family members, friends, and acquaintances participated in the Corrida of Leuven in December 2022 and 2023.
The Scouts of Sint Paulus, where Robin, Rinus’ sister, is a scout leader, organized an Easter egg sale in 2023 in support of the fund.
Yasmine, Rinus’ mother, held a sale to raise money for the fund.
In 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, the children of De Ark (Rinus and Eli’s school) participated in a sponsored walk to raise money for the fund. In 2024, the proceeds from the collection at the First Communion mass of the children of De Ark also went to the fund.
Tim, Rinus’ father, reached out to friends and acquaintances, and many of them donated or bought hoodies and T-shirts designed by Floris, Rinus’ brother. Some friends continue to donate monthly. Tim also arranged for Proximus to support the fund.
During Lent 2024, students in the second year of Sint-Pieterscollege (SPC Leuven) sold raffle tickets for a tombola in aid of the Rinus Pini Fund, raising €4,500.
At the beginning of 2024, the Rinus Pini Fund published:
"Looking at Images and Symbols on the Road to Santiago de Compostela: the Via Lemovicensis and the Camino Francés" – 100 copies were sold quickly.
In addition to Proximus, other companies like TILKON, Fietsen Lucien, and MetaLeuven have supported the fund.
The first publication about the 2022 cycling/pilgrimage journey from Leuven along the Via Lemovicensis (Limoges) and the Camino Francés to Santiago de Compostela in Spain is sold out. However, you can still order the digital version (136 pages) for €15 by emailing Magda Kirsch: magda.kirsch@gmail.com and transferring the amount to:

The Rinus Pini Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation (KBS), is especially grateful to KBS for the support and guidance it has provided. Management by KBS is a key factor in the successful operation and efficient administration of the fund’s financial resources.
Use of Financial Resources: Concrete Projects
The Board of the Rinus Pini Fund, in consultation with the KBS, decided to financially support the Community Days organized by Verbinding in Verlies in 2023, 2024, and 2025. These training days were attended by doctors, psychologists, nurses, and other caregivers. They enable professionals to better support parents and family members dealing with the grief of losing a (grand)child, sibling, or another relative. Detailed information about these Community Days and the organization can be found on their website: Verbinding in Verlies. This organization is also working on training for general practitioners regarding grief and loss, in which our own family doctor is also involved.
In 2025, the fund also supported the KITES project at UZ Leuven, which aims to support children in palliative and intensive care and their families, both in the hospital and at home.
The fund is also considering supporting UZ Antwerp, where Rientje passed away. They are developing a new PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). Within this PICU, they will set up a waiting room for adult/family visitors of terminally ill children, as well as a play and meeting room for siblings. The Rinus Pini Fund is considering contributing to the furnishing of these two rooms, which are expected to be completed in 2025.
We also hope in 2025 to support a project that helps ensure the survival of the cheetah, Rinus’ favorite animal.
